If you have a gloomy cellar and you have no idea how to make it into a useful productive part of your home, then look no further. We have some useful tips to help you create your very own theatre. You can stay and relax in your own cosy basement whilst watching your own big screen and, when it comes to selling, you’ll have an attractive new feature to set you apart from the competition.
We all know that cinema’s are getting more and more expensive these days and having to arrive extremely early to get a great seat and hearing the awful noise of someone eating popcorn loudly can really put you off your movie. There is no better place than your home and here are a few tips to consider…
The bigger the better right?
Let’s be honest, if it’s not a big screen, there is no point having your own home theatre. If you have the money, go big or go home. Buy the largest and highest quality television screen you can. If it’s within your budget and it fits in the basement, the sky’s the limit. You could always sit in your living room in front of a small screen but this is your new place of luxury.
Comfy or practical?
If you’re interested in being the neighbourhood hot spot then comfort is a key factor when it comes to your seating arrangements. Most people enjoy a drink with their snacks so it may be a good idea to invest in some chairs that no only are plush and comfortable, but also have a cup holder.
What’s the best lighting for a cinema? In our opinion it may be wise to get a dimmer light that can be controlled. When you walk into the room you want it to be welcoming and quite frankly, you want to see where you’re walking. Having a dimmer light will allow you to have both a bright room at the start and a dark, atmospheric space when you’re enjoying your favourite movie.
No home cinema would be complete without snacks. The last thing you want to do in the middle of your movie is to run up the stairs to the kitchen. Why not make your own
concession stand when drawing up the designs? Another budget friendly way is to purchase a mini fridge as you will be able to keep your treats close by.
As well as all the other considerations it may be best to get a decent audio and speaker system as this could make or break your home cinema. But no need to worry, changing your cellar into the home theatre of your dreams is possible and could add great value to your property. Follow these tips and you will be well on your way.
Sometimes when you’re conducting your seasonal home maintenance your basement gets forgotten – you haven’t really used it in a while so why spend a lot of money on it, right? Before embarking on this transformation you need to make sure that all the necessary maintenance has been done. The last thing you want is to host an event in a damp, uninsulated or unsafe room.
